A few of my favorite things….

Katie, from Persnickety Pickles, is having a linky party about her favorite non-teaching related things. I thought I’d join up too! Obviously, my family is one of my favorite things, but I am focusing on actual “things” and not “people” for this post.

1. Alice in Wonderland – I LOVE Alice in Wonderland! The book, the Disney movie(s), everything! I collect Alice in Wonderland merchandise: records, books, DVDs (I have SO many different versions it’s not even funny!), stuffed characters, tea sets, the list goes on and ON! I’ve met “Alice,” “The Mad Hatter,” “Tweedledee and Tweedledum,” the White Rabbit,” and “The Queen of Hearts” at Disney World. Once, my parents went to Epcot without me and they met Alice and actually had her call me on my phone and talk to me! How cool is that?! My favorite character from Alice is the Cheshire Cat. When my husband and I went to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party last October I dressed up as Cheshire Cat and my husband went as Mad Hatter.

2. Speaking of Alice in Wonderland, another one of my FAVORITE things is Walt Disney World! I wish I could live there! I’ve gone so many times I’ve lost count. Magic Kingdom is definitely my favorite place there but I love Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios as well. I don’t care what any one elseย says, Disney World is way better than Universal Studios. (Photo taken by yours truly!) I love the rides, the shows, the SHOPPING(!), the food, and the Magic. My dream job would be to work at Disney World doing something totally magical. Something else Disney World related that I love is Pin Trading! I LOVE trading pins with people! So much fun! My husband and I are planning to go to Disney for our anniversary this summer (5 years!) and I can’t wait!!
3. Art Supplies – I LOVE crayons, markers, stamps, glitter, anything arts and craft related. I love to do art, unfortunately, I don’t ever make much time for it. ๐Ÿ™ I have so many art supplies I could open a small craft store! I love Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, and Joann. I like cute, colorful, whimsical art. I’m not very “gifted” when it comes to art, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying it! I love the smell of new crayons. I love the sharpness of a new colored pencil. I love gluing and sticking things together. Mixed media is definitely my favorite type of art to create. Below is a painting I completed a couple of months ago. (The last bit of art I’ve done in awhile.)

4. The Hunger Games Trilogy – Y’all I am a HUGE Hunger Games fan! My husband got me the book for Christmas. We read it (my husband reads out loud to me every night!) and immediately bought the second and third book. We even went back and re-read the first one and now we’re re-reading the second one. I am obsessed with the movie that’s due to come out next March. I check the internet every day to see what characters have been officially cast. (So far just Katniss, Peeta, and Gale!) If I taught older students I would definitely make them read The Hunger Games! The book is amazing! Read it if you haven’t already!
5. Rainbow colors – I LOVE rainbow colors. My classroom is like a rainbow factory. If my students learn only one thing this year it will be that I love rainbows and the order the colors go in (Guess that’s two things!). I love to organize things by color. To me, rainbows are happy and cheerful and who doesn’t want to be happy and cheerful?! My wedding even had a rainbow theme!
6.ย  Technology, specifically my iPhone! – I am addicted to my iPhone! It does…everything!! I finally got one back in April of last year with some of my income tax return money. ๐Ÿ™‚ I use it to play games, keep track of my appointments and things to do, check and send email, check on the latest Hunger Games movie news (told ya, I’m obsessed!), and SO much more! I take it with me everywhere I go (even to the bathroom!). I am an App addict also. I am always downloading and trying out new apps. So much fun!!
7. Annabelle – I said I wans’t going to pick any humans as part of my list, but I can’t leave off Annabelle. We adopted her from PetSmart last May after my cat of almost 20 years, Pouncy, died. Pouncy and I grew up together. I was so sad to lose her. She had one eye and FIV, but she was such a spunky cat. I knew Pouncy would want me to give me love to another cat though, so I met Annabelle and that was that! We snatched that girl right up and took her home with us. She’s quite the handful sometimes!
So there you have it! Seven of my favorite non-teaching related things! If you want to join up, head over to Persnickety Pickles!

  1. Oh, Anabelle! She is so precious! We adopted our last kitty, Gus, from Pet Smart. I love Alice in Wonderland, too. My mom called me her little Alice when I was little (I had long blonde hair and I was VERY curious!)

  2. When I see kitties at PetSmart I want to take them all home with me! I love cats so much! My little Annabelle is a lot like Alice herself – so curious!!
