Back to School Silly Rainbow Sentences

This post mentions this resource being available for free. It was free during the 2017 – 2018 school year. It is now available for purchase HERE. Make sure to follow me for the chance to receive more free resources like this one was!

It’s that time of year again (depending on where you are in the world!) – Back to School time! Many teachers and students are already back in the classroom and are busy learning while others will be starting before you know it! Even though I’m a work-at-home-momma now, I still get those excited feelings about back to school time. (School supply sales always attract my eye!)

This school year I want to give something a little extra back to all of the teachers out there (aspiring, new, homeschooling or veteran) who have supported my blog and Teachers Pay Teachers store. Each month I plan on posting a full, complete resource (aka Treasure!) here on my blog for download… for FREE. These resources will remain free for this school year and at the end of the year they will be converted to paid resources. (Make sure you download them before they’re gone!)Ā

To access these free “treasures,” you will simply have to sign up for my newsletter email list. Don’t worry friends! I will not bombard your email inbox! I will simply email you once a month to let you know what the new free resource is and how to download it. Once you’re on my list, you’ll get the super secret password to access the Treasure Chest of free resources available on my blog. (Go ahead and click here if you want to sign up right now!)

For August, I have a fun back to school writing center/activity for you – Back to School Silly Rainbow Sentences!

This resources is provided in both color and black and white versions to help you save on ink if necessary. Students can work on this resource in centers, as an individual practice station, in small groups, as an early finisher activity or any other way that will benefit you and your students!

Students choose one card of each color and arrangeĀ  them in ROY G. BIV rainbow order to build a silly sentence. A directions mat is included to help students know what order to place the cards in. After creating their sentence, they will use one of the two included recording sheets to write their sentences in their very best handwriting. (One of the recording sheets also includes a small box where they can illustrate their silly sentence!)

Having taught first grade for many years, I know how much students can vary in their reading skills at the beginning of the year. Pictures are included on all of the cards (except the article/pronoun cards – The, Her, etc.) to provide a visual that will aid the students in their comprehension of the sentence. Even if students cannot independently read the sentences, they can still experience success with creating the sentences (laying the cards down in the correct order) and writing them as neatly as they can.

I hope your student(s) enjoy this resource and you find it a quick addition to your classroom.

    1. Yes, it is still available! Just a few questions- have you signed up for the newsletter to get the password to the freebies page? You need that password to get into that page first, then you need the password for the resource which is rainbow as you said. I tested it, and it opened up right away! Let me know if you continue to have trouble getting it.
