1 More, 1 Less, 10 More, 10 Less Scoot Game and Practice

Merry May everyone! Although the blog post is a little late, this month’s resource was posted right on time on May 1st. In case you haven’t found it yet, here is some more information about this month’s resource!

1 More, 1 Less, 10 More, 1o Less Scoot is a fun way to review or practice what can be a very tricky skill for some student’s to master. Often, this skill is introduced or practiced with students finding missing numbers on a 100 or 120 chart. A small portion of the chart is shown with one or more numbers missing and students have to fill in the missing numbers. The missing numbers are often above and below a given number on the chart and the number right before and after. To me, this almost makes a flower-like shape. I often referred to it as a flower with my students so they could understand how to find 1 more, 1 less, 10 more, and 10 less on a number chart.

That flower-like appearance was the inspiration for this Scoot game!

How to use this resource:

• The Scoot game can be used as a whole class review, practice, or formative assessment. It is played like a typical Scoot game and directions are included.
• This game could also be used as a Read the Room/Write the Room type of activity. Post the cards around the room as a math center and allow students to hunt for them and record their answers.
• You could also just place all the cars in a fun container (a flower pot maybe!) and have students draw cards out and record their answers in either a center or even small group.
• A few practice pages are also included to further reinforce the concept.
