Grow Capsule Fun

Happy Day! (Plus a small freebie and giveaway reminder!)

I’ve had a great day! I woke up this morning to find I had sold a few products on TeachersPayTeachers. Then I discovered that someone made a very generous donation to my first Donor’s Choose project that I submitted a couple of weeks ago!

I.AM.SO.EXCITED!! Crate and Barrel also made a contribution to my project! This is my first time posting a project on Donor’s Choose and I just can’t stress enough how excited I am!

Started teaching about fractions today. So far, so good! The kids enjoyed the Pizza Fractions SmartBoard lesson I created. We only did part of it today. We also did some fun writing today with those cheap little Grow Capsules. I think I saw the idea on TeacherTipster.

I put all the capsules in cups of water before the class went to specials. When they returned, we ended up having to go to the book fair. When we returned I had each student choose a cup. I bought the Backyard Bugs set of capsules so everyone got an insect or bug of some sort. They had to write about the capsule by either writing information they know about that insect or they could choose to write a simple story about their insect. I had them glue their capsule onto their paper and make it part of their illustration. They had a blast! Here is a copy of the writing paper I used. Click it to download it!

They sell them at the Dollar Tree, but the ones at the Dollar Tree don’t always say what “theme” they are. I got mine at Dollar General. They had ocean animals, insects, etc. I chose one called “Backyard Bugs.”
